Supreme Court Hears Swat Flogging Case
ISLAMABAD: An eight-member larger bench of the Supreme Court (SC), headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, opened hearing of a suo motu notice on the video footage of a 17-year-old girl being flogged in public by the Taliban on Monday morning.
Besides the CJP, the bench consists of Justice Javed Iqbal, Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan, Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday, Justice Faqir Muhammad Khokhar, Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan, Justice Raja Fayyaz Ahmed and Justice Chaudhry Ijaz Ahmed.
The federal interior secretary, in addition to the NWFP chief secretary and inspector general of police will personally appear before the court today. The Chief Justice has ordered federal interior secretary to produce the victim of the flogging before the court.
